Writing workshop

Writing Workshop

The writing workshop is an educational format offered by AmerikaHaus NRW e.V. that invites students to engage creatively with literature, language, and American culture. In our workshops, US authors or native English speakers visit schools in North Rhine-Westphalia and design interactive writing formats directly in the classroom.

The focus is on creative writing in English: participants draw inspiration from modern US literature, analyze texts together, and develop their own ideas—often inspired by poems, short stories, or personal memories. The goal is not only to understand language, but also to use it creatively.

The writing workshop creates a personal approach to literature and at the same time opens up new perspectives on the USA. Through exchanges with the authors, the young people not only learn about their work, but also about everyday life in the United States – in an authentic, accessible and motivating way.

The program is primarily aimed at middle and high school students and is ideal for project days, literature weeks, or as an interdisciplinary teaching format. It combines creative educational work with intercultural learning and promotes self-confidence in using language – in both German and English.

The writing workshop is available upon request and is free of charge. As short-term implementation depends on the funding available during the respective period, we cannot guarantee immediate confirmation. We are happy to add schools interested in hosting a writing workshop to our list of interested parties to facilitate future planning.
