Award guidelines for the Abitur Prize in English by AmerikaHaus NRW e.V.
1. Purpose of the prize AmerikaHaus NRW e.V. awards an annual Abitur Prize in English to outstanding high school graduates in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). This prize recognizes excellence in the subject of English.
2. Prize and award The prize winners receive:
- a certificate from AmerikaHaus NRW e.V.,
- a book as a special recognition,
- mention on the social media channels and website of AmerikaHaus NRW e.V. after the award ceremony and with the consent of the prize winner
3. Award criteria To be considered for the award, the following criteria must be met:
- The applicant must have achieved an average grade of at least 13 points in English in the last three school semesters of the qualification phase.
- The achievements must be documented on the last three report cards.
- The applicant must provide suitable evidence of extracurricular activities (e.g., volunteer work, club activities, competitions, or internships).
- A teacher must write a letter of recommendation justifying the applicant's suitability for the award.
4. Number of award winners A maximum of three high school graduation awards are presented each year in North Rhine-Westphalia.
5. Nomination procedure
- The English departments at schools have the right to nominate suitable students.
- Nominations must be confirmed by the school administration and submitted to AmerikaHaus NRW e.V.
- The application deadline is May 31 each year.
6. Selection process The winners are selected by AmerikaHaus NRW e.V. The decision is binding and cannot be contested.
7. Award ceremony The awards are presented during the graduation ceremonies at the respective schools. The certificates and book gifts will be delivered to the schools in good time or can be collected from AmerikaHaus NRW e.V.
