Barbershop Concert
On Sunday, March 8, 2026, AmerikaHaus NRW hosted an evening of transatlantic barbershop music at VENTANA in Cologne, featuring Portland’s award-winning mixed-gender chorus PDX Voices alongside the German ensembles O-Ton and Klangküsse.
Under the direction of Robert Roman, PDX Voices exemplifies the “Everyone in Harmony” initiative of the Barbershop Harmony Society, combining musical excellence with values of inclusion, diversity, and respect. The chorus shared a range of selections that have earned them top honors in national and international championships, impressing the Cologne audience with their virtuosity and spirit. The concert highlighted each of the three ensemble’s unique approach to barbershop and vocal harmony. O-Ton offered rich harmonic explorations ranging from classic barbershop to jazz swing and pop, while Klangküsse showcased their dynamic repertoire in English and German, humorously reflecting themes of love and everyday life. Audience members were treated to a lively blend of tradition, innovation, and cross-cultural collaboration, and they honored the performances with standing ovations. Guests and musicians alike cherished this evening filled with uplifting music, transatlantic encounters – and harmony.
We extend our sincere thanks to PDX Voices, O-Ton, and Klangküsse for their outstanding performances, and to the Federal Foreign Office for supporting this event.
