What impact will the US sanctions against China have on European businesses – Can Europe stay neutral?

The AmerikaHaus NRW e.V., AmCham Germany's Regional Committee Cologne and Andersen Tax & Legal cordially invite you to our next Insights Call.

The US has imposed sanctions against China in several areas, and more restrictions are likely to follow. The sanctions are predominantly in response to alleged violations of human rights and concerns relating to national security. How quickly sanctions can have an influence on businesses in third countries is well illustrated by the restrictions on trade with Russia: They may cause the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project to be abandoned as suppliers from Europe are facing US sanctions. European companies are likely to face the same pressures regarding their business with China.

A panel of US international trade law experts and a business leader from a German company in China, with first-hand experience regarding the relevant issues, will discuss the current state of affairs and likely scenarios for the future.
We are pleased to discuss with the following speakers:

Barbara D. Linney, Partner, Co-leader International Trade & National Security law team, Baker Hostetler, Washington, DC

Brian Egan, Partner, Steptoe, Washington, DC, former senior legal official with the White House, the National Security Council, and the Department of State and Department of the Treasury under the Obama Administration

Mike Hofmann, Managing Director of the Melchers Group in Beijing as well as Chairman of the Board, Koehler Pharmaceuticals (Beijing) Ltd, a German Chinese joint venture company in Beijing

Moderator: Dr. Hermann Knott, member of the German and New York Bar, Partner, Andersen, Cologne
