Screening and Discussion of "Good Night, and Good Luck"
Thursday, October 16, 2025 | 6.30 p.m.
Good Night, and Good Luck (2005), directed by George Clooney, explores a defining moment in American politics. The film is set in the early 1950s and examines the confrontation between CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow and Senator Joseph McCarthy during the height of the "Red Scare." It portrays how Murrow and his team scrutinized McCarthy’s anti-communist campaigns and challenged the culture of fear and intimidation that dominated American politics at the time. Shot in black-and-white, the film emphasizes the role of broadcast journalism in holding power accountable and the ethical responsibilities of the press in a democratic society.
After the screening, we invite you to join a discussion about freedom of the press as well as about journalistic integrity and the responsibility of journalists in covering current affairs, especially in times of turmoil.
