When speaking about podcasting, public discussions often describe the medium, including its technologies, industry, and fan communities, as "intimate". These descriptions use intimacy as a cultural code. To do so, it draws on Culture and Media Studies to situate textual analysis of specific podcasts within podcast criticism, monetization, and productive advice. These sources define intimacy as close in time and space by drawing on and reworking historically established discussions of intimacy like family eroticism, and friendship. Through analysis of these self-descriptions, i build a podcasting-specific framework for intimacy and use that framework to show how podcasts communicate intimacy.
