Happy Holidays Concert

Dear Members, Friends and Supporters of the AmerikaHaus NRW,
December is approaching and we cordially invite you to this year's Christmas concert, featuring American jazz and holiday classics:

Chris Hopkins Meets the Young Lions
from Frank Sinatra to Count Basie & more
Monday, December 11, 2023 | 7 p.m.
Altes Pfandhaus | Kartäuserwall 20 | 50678 Cologne

Chris Hopkins (piano & saxophone)
Thimo Niesterok (trumpet)
Tijn Trommelen (guitar & vocals)
Caris Hermes (bass)
Mathieu Clement (drums & vibraphone)

Having been the youngest band member on countless concert stages since the 1990s, Chris Hopkins is now delighted to present some of the most talented jazz musicians of a new generation, the "Young Lions":

Shooting star Thimo Niesterok with his beautiful, radiant tone, one of the youngest graduates of the Cologne University of Music and Dance, has recently received the Kobe Jazz Award and already counts as Germany's leading swing trumpeter of his generation. Tijn Trommelen is an up-and-coming guitarist and charismatic singer in the style of the so-called crooners such as Frank Sinatra or Bing Crosby. Caris Hermes, an award-winning jazz bass player whose live portfolio includes concerts with the WDR Big Band and the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and Mathieu Clement, multi-instrumentalist who has played the drums since age seven, complete the ensemble.

Chris Hopkins is a German-American jazz pianist, saxophonist, composer and band leader, who is internationally renowned for his swinging, melodic style. He has played concerts around the world, sometimes alongside jazz stars such as Clark Terry, Scott Hamilton, and Butch Miles. His CD productions have received coveted awards such as the "Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik" or the "Prix de l'Academie du Jazz, Paris". He has also been honored as "Keeper of the Flame" for his contributions to classical jazz in Europe and has received the "Jazz Pott" Award. He teaches jazz at the Cologne University of Music and Dance.
