American Politics: Where is Donald Trump taking us?

He seems to be in constant clash with mainstream media world-wide; is boisterous and sure of himself; and his first six months in the Oval Office have been rocky. President Donald Trump wants to “Make America Great Again”. What does this mean? How did he get elected in the first place? Where will he lead us? Who and what is this man? Kansas State Senator Chris Steineger, a 30-year veteran of American government and politics, will lead a 90 minute discussion of Washington politics and beyond.

Kansas State Senator Chris Steineger, from Kansas City, Kansas, was elected four terms be-tween 1996 and 2012. He served 14 years as a Democrat and in 2010 switched to the Republican party. He has experience at all three levels of American government, including staffing for a U.S. Congressman in Washington, 1988-89; in the City Manager’s office in Kansas City; and with the Kansas State Department of Revenue.

Senator Steineger is retired from politics and is now a guest lecturer for Universities, Embassies, and NGOs abroad. He has visited 53 countries in and including Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Mexico, China, India, Israel, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Cuba. He specializes in explaining American government, contemporary politics, and trends in public opinion for foreign audiences.

Senator Chris Steineger has traveled extensively in Germany, visiting 15 states and most major cities and regions. He was a Fulbright Fellow at Humboldt University, Berlin in 2013, and also held a Cologne town hall meeting for Amerika Haus North Rhine-Westphalia in 2011, then still an active politician.

Florian Bauer, who will be leading through the evening, is an award-winning journalist, moderator, and lecturer. He presents daily political news at the German public broadcasting channel Phoenix and, as a reporter at WDR and ARD, produces segments for a couple of programs, including Tagesschau, Sportschau and Morgenmagazin. He also gives lectures and teaches at various universities around the globe. Bauer received the Grimme-Award as well as the German-Television-Award for his work.
