After the Munich Security Conference: Cyber Security

Amerika Haus e.V. NRW, in cooperation with Deutsche Telekom AG and the Center for International Security and Governance of the University of Bonn (CISG), cordially invites you to a post- Munich Security Conference Discussion.

Threats in cyberspace, most particularly those posed by nation states, are ever increasing both in number and complexity. These include not only serious technical threats that could undermine critical infrastructure and massive theft of intellectual property, but hybrid cyber/influence operations that are aimed at undermining the very fabric of democratic societies. These issues have become a more pronounced concern in senior venues around the globe including the Munich Security Conference that will have concluded just prior to this discussion.

Mr. Painter will discuss evolving cyber threats, emerging international diplomacy in this area, challenges of deterring malicious state actors and give his perspective on how these issues were taken up at this years Munich Security Conference that he will have just attended as well as giving an historical perspective on how this issue has evolved from previous MSCs.

Christopher Painter is a globally recognized leader and expert on cybersecurity and cyber policy. He has been on the vanguard of US and international cyber issues for over twenty-five years: first as a leading federal prosecutor of some of the most high-profile cybercrime cases in the country, then as a senior official at the Department of Justice, the FBI, the National Security Council and finally at the State Department as the world’s first top cyber diplomat. Currently, he is also the William J. Perry Fellow at Stanford’s Center for International Security and Cooperation.

In an expert discussion with Dr. Sven Herpig who is the Head of International Cyber Security Policy, Stiftung Neue Verantwortung e. V.
